How WooCommerce Gift Cards Work

For customers purchasing a gift card:

1. 01Customer visits the gift card product page and selects a predefined amount.
2. 02They enter the recipient’s name, email address, and an optional personal message.
3. 03They complete checkout like any normal product.
4. 04The plugin generates the gift card and emails it to the recipient (with a PDF attachment) once the order reaches the configured status.

For recipients redeeming a gift card:

1. 05Recipient receives the gift card email with their unique code.
2. 06They visit your store, add products to the cart, and enter the gift card code at checkout.
3. 07The gift card balance is applied to their order. If the balance does not cover the full amount, they pay the difference with another payment method.
4. 08Any unused balance remains on the redeemable gift card for future purchases.

For store owners managing gift cards:

1. 09View all issued gift cards and their balances from the WooCommerce backend.
2. 10Generate and send free gift cards to customers directly from the admin panel.
3. 11Edit the gift card email content to match your brand tone and messaging.

WooCommerce Store Credits

Beyond standard gift cards, this plugin lets you create store credit coupons: a flexible alternative to cash refunds and a powerful loyalty tool. Store credits work exactly like gift cards but are typically issued by the store rather than purchased by customers.

Use cases for store credits: 1. Offer store credit instead of cash refunds to retain revenue. 2. Reward loyal customers or referral program participants. 3. Run promotional campaigns where customers earn store credit for purchases above a certain value.

Store credit coupons can be assigned to specific users, which prevents unauthorized use and keeps your discount budget predictable.

Pair this with Smart Coupons for WooCommerce for advanced store credit management, BOGO deals, bulk coupon generation, and URL-based coupons.

giordanidis (@giordanidis) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I needed a simple solution to add a gift card to my WooCommerce website, so I opted for the free version of this plugin. Initially, I ran into some compatibility issues with a multi-currency plugin I wanted to use alongside it. I reached out to the support team, and they quickly responded with a solution, making the plugin compatible with the multi-currency one I was using. Their support was both friendly and prompt.
